Vijay Shrestha

[Nepal – Kathmandu]

Vijay is a rural livelihoods specialist and evaluator with long experience directing, managing and administering large-scale development programmes in the natural resources sector, focused on Nepal and the South Asia region, for organisations such as DFAT, FCDO, ICIMOD and WFP.

Vijay's work sits where natural resources meet human development: transboundary cooperation in water, energy and agriculture, the implications of climate change, and community-based development and poverty reduction – often in complex, fragile social and institutional environments, and sometimes during periods of conflict. Monitoring systems, knowledge management and stakeholder communication are consistent threads.

Vijay has been recognised by DFID Nepal for contributions to forest sector development and improvements to the lives of the poor and socially excluded across Nepal, and holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Wolverhampton for significant contributions to rural development in Nepal.
