How we think about our work, our role and our impact.
Who we are, what we hold ourselves to, and the commitments that shape how we work with our clients, our associates, and the people our work is ultimately for.
We work together with people and organisations in ways that support meaningful change.
Change is driven by the people, communities and organisations doing the work. Our role is to contribute the evidence, learning and insight that strengthens their efforts, grounded in local knowledge and lived experience.
It is used to inform better decisions, stronger results and, ultimately, improvements in people's lives.

What matters to us.
Craft.
Honesty.
Curiosity.
Partnership.
We are committed to locally led development.
We want to be more intentional about how we incorporate the knowledge, experience, and participation of local actors into our work. Priorities, activities and results are best shaped by those closest to them, leading to more effective and sustainable outcomes.
A gender and social inclusion lens, across everything we do.
We pay attention to power, and to whose voices are heard and whose are missed. Wherever we can, we design participatory approaches that reach a wide range of stakeholders, align our work with gender equality, diversity and social inclusion, and stay accountable to affected communities as well as the organisations commissioning the work.
Supporting the transformation to a climate-resilient world.
Complex socio-ecological problems often defy tidy logic models and reductive technical solutions. We use resilience thinking to explore how systems absorb, adapt and transform with change, and bring an intersectional lens to understand how different people and groups relate to, and are affected by, climate change.
We work across silos with our clients and partners connecting climate to health, forced migration and conflict, co-creating evidence and learning that supports long-term, system-wide change. We are also committed to reducing the environmental impact of our own operations, guided by an employee Climate Crisis Team that researches the choices that move us towards climate neutrality.
A specialist partner, not a generalist consultancy.
For organisations working towards lasting change in complex settings. We work alongside our clients to understand the system before recommending action, asking the harder questions, and being honest about what the evidence can and cannot tell us. Our work is geared towards use. We are not interested in producing reports that sit on shelves. Everything we do is designed to sharpen the decisions and to deepen the impact our clients are working to achieve.

Our governance model allows staff to help shape the company direction, play a role in decision making and keep us on course to achieve our mission. We work collectively to create a healthy business that provides good value to our clients, is fair to those who we work with, and create a culture where employees can make a difference.
Held to standards beyond our own.
We approach our work with humility and aim to practice what we preach, seeking out external measures of progress and accountability. We invest time to help our staff grow, to ensure our working practices and technology are secure and fit for purpose, and to honour the shared principles set out by those we work with. The memberships, certifications and commitments we are independently assessed against and opt to renew.
